Hi! Welcome to Land Based Fishing! This is a site established by yours truly Vinnie. A local Melbourne boy who loves going for a fish!
What Land Based Fishing is all about?
Land based fishing is all about providing some basic knowledge to people like you and me, on how to catch a fish without the need for a boat, so we can all go down to our local beaches, piers or rivers and enjoy a nice afternoon on a weekend catching some fish!
When I first started fishing, there wasn’t much information out there on how, what and when to go fishing. How I learned was either through my dad, uncle or my older brother. What I learned was through trial and error and the places we went. Well… they were all land based. From surf beaches, jetty’s, sketchy rock walls, and of course, down at the local river.
What can you expect from us?
The type of information you can expect from us is well-rounded basic knowledge and how-to’s on land based fishing. We will be addressing anything from the gear you will need to tricks & tips we’ve learned from experience. This includes all the different rod & reel combos and setting up different rigs & basic tackle. Different fishing methods required to catch certain species of fish and understanding fish patterns and behaviors.
We want you to become fishing experts on the land! No more waiting around for that first bite and going home with an empty bag.
The vision we have for Land Based Fishing
Our vision is to get as many people out there fishing as possible and really enjoy this relaxing yet exciting pastime or sport, as some may call it. We hope that we can provide you with some knowledge to help you land that very first fish and get you hooked on a pastime, which I love doing with my family.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.
All the best and happy fishing!
I must say, I love fishing. I’ve only ever done land fishing but never fishing from a boat before. My father took me fishing from a young age and I loved it ever since, up until this day I still go fishing. The main thing is that I’ll always have the fear of fishing from a boat because it can be dangerous if you are not experienced fishing from a boat.
This is some great information on what land fishing is all about. I love doing it and so should others. It can make for a great hobby for the family and so forth.
Thank you for the memories and for covering this topic.
All the best to you.
Hi Aabidah,
Thank you for taking the time and reading my post 🙂
You’re right, fishing from a boat can be dangerous. However, with the right equipment on board such as a life vest and staying in calm water conditions your risk can drastically be reduced. All the best and I hope you continue fishing and creating memories.
Cheers,
Vinnie
Hi Vinnie! I have bookmarked your site. I know there is not much quality information online concerning land based fishing. I’m glad I found your site and that you have decided to write about what you have learned directly from your dad, uncle and older brother.
I’m looking forward to learn different fishing methods required to catch certain species of fish. This would be super useful. Thank you in advance.
Hi Henry,
I appreciate that a lot. Thanks for taking the time and reading my posts 🙂
Cheers,
Vinnie
Hi Vinnie, thank you for creating this site, this is the first time I have seen a fishing page that doesn’t play to people who have been fishing for years and been brought up with it. No jargon, just really accessible to a novice like me who watches those guys on the pier with a wistful tinge of envy that they are spending a perfect day at the water’s edge and going home (hopefully) with a fantastic fresh supper. I used to go river fishing with an old friend of mine, all night sometimes, but it was just for sport and frankly, we rarely caught anything. I would love to have the knowledge to fish land-based on the seashore.
Hi Ally,
Thanks for the awesome feedback. This is exactly what i wanted to achieve by getting beginners into fishing and learning the basic skills and equipment required. I’m glad I could help.
All the best,
Vinnie
Hi Vinnie, great website and full of useful easy to understand information. I like the section where you can select the species to target. Now that Coronavirus restrictions are slightly eased I will take my two children to do land based fishing. Thank you.
Hi Teresa,
That is some great news and luckily the restrictions are starting to ease for us. I know I have been very eager to get back out on the water again once it’s safe to do so.
Excellent simple straight to the point website;
Can you elaborate on homemade and/or supermarket baits for saltwater fishing?
Sam
Hey Vinnie,
Am based in NSW Sydney right now and I am quite keen to catch jewfish and salmon, do you have any recommendations on a suitable place to catch them? Also my pilchards keep falling off whenever I cast out is there a way to secure it better?
Thanks for helping!
